Gellért Thermal Bath

• Closed for renovation

The Gellért has been closed since October 2025 for a complete renovation of its pools and facilities.
It is scheduled to reopen in 2028, offering modern comfort in a beautifully preserved historic setting.

The Gellért, boasting Art Nouveau architecture, is undoubtedly the jewel of all historical medicinal spas in Hungary and its capital.
Construction began in 1912, was suspended during the First World War and was not completed until 1918.

But the post-war chaos of the Austro-Hungarian Empire didn’t stop it from becoming a resounding success from the moment it opened.

With its 10 pools with temperatures of up to 40° (including the largest pool in Budapest at such a temperature), as well as several saunas and steam rooms and a range of medical services, it is one of the most comprehensive spas in the country.

The central swimming hall, with its impressive ceiling height and magnificent columns around the pool, has become a world-famous icon.

Less visible in the photos circulating on the net is its bar-restaurant on the second floor of the same hall, where you can enjoy a cocktail on the outdoor terrace, or near the balconies, allowing you to appreciate the architecture from another angle.
The Gellért is also the only historic spa with an original feature: a wave pool in its outdoor courtyard!

Don’t miss the outdoor thermal pool found beside this wave pool and positioned on an elevated terrace.
It is discreet and may not be easy to locate, but you can find real peace and quiet here by taking a break and alternating with the nearby sauna and its cold-water barrel.

Finally, the Gellért is the only spa in Budapest that offers a private room for rent for a limited time with a sauna and a small pool for two, which you can fill as many times as you like between 18 and 40°C. And to top it all off, a bottle of champagne and fruit or chocolates are also included.
